The
Bilby Awards
The Bilby Awards are Queensland's children's
choice awards. They are run by the Children's Book Council of Australia
(Queensland Branch). At the beginning of each year, students in
Queensland schools are asked to enter the name of their favourite book.
They are not limited in any way, except winners from the previous two
years are not eligible.
Children's
Book of the Year Awards
Engaging the community with
literature for Young Australians. These annual awards are for books with
an implied readership under the age of eighteen.
COOL
Awards
COOL Awards are the children's choice book awards
voted for by the younger people of the Canberra region. The COOL Awards
stands for Canberra's Own Outstanding List. It is a program run for
children allowing them to vote for their favourite book in the sections
of Picture Story Book, Fiction for Younger Readers, Fiction for Older
Readers and new category: Fiction for Years 7 - 9.
The
Crichton Award for New Illustrators
The Crichton Award aims
to recognise and encourage new talent in the field of Australian
children's book illustration. It is administered by the Victorian Branch
of the CBCA and the judging panel of three is nominated and elected by
the executive of the Victorian Branch.
Environment Award for Children's Literature
On World Environment Day each year, the Wilderness Society
announces the winner of its Environment Award for Children’s
Literature. The award honours books that promote a sense of caring and
responsibility for the environment through quality Australian children's
books.
Ethel Turner Prize for Young People's Literature
The
Ethel Turner Prize ($30,000), named in honour of the acclaimed author
of the children's classic Seven Little Australians, is offered for a
work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry written for young people of
secondary school level.
Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children's Literature
The
Patricia Wrightson Prize ($30,000) is offered for a work of fiction,
non-fiction or poetry written for children up to secondary school
level. The prize is named in honour of children’s author Patricia
Wrightson, whose books have won many prestigious awards world - wide
including the Hans Christian Andersen Medal (1986) for The Nargun and
the Stars.
Psychologists for Peace Literature Award
Psychologists
for Peace wishes to recognise authors who promote the peaceful
resolution of conflict through their work. As our children live in an
increasingly threatened world, it is important to present them with
constructive alternatives to violence and hostility. We believe that
literature has a significant influence on children s attitudes and
behaviour. Therefore, we wish to support and encourage authors whose
work promotes peace and the understanding of others.
West Australian Young Readers' Book Award
WAYRBA
is a readers' choice award, organised on a statewide basis for young
readers. The Award operates on two levels, Younger Readers and Older
Readers. Readers are invited to nominate, through their libraries, books
that they have enjoyed. These nominations are then considered by the
WAYRBA committee and the two lists are drawn up.

develop opinions about and inspire a passion for stories.
